October 31^th, 2023    Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held the traffic safety class for 74 students of Toon Municipal Haishi Elementary School (Ehime Prefecture) on October 30. In Ehime Prefecture, this is the very first implementation.

Since Haishi Elementary School is adjacent to the industrial park and an arterial road with high volumes of truck traffic, the school wanted to prevent traffic accidents while commuting. To raise traffic safety awareness, the students had hands-on experience learning the characteristics and dangers of trucks, safe behavior at intersections, and pedestrian crossings. They commented on how the experience helped to increase their safety awareness, saying, "At intersections, I will make sure to wait for the traffic lights to turn green at a distance from the crossings.” To prevent and decrease the number of future traffic accidents among children, we will continue to engage in traffic safety education and raise awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities.

Komaru Koutsu Foundation was established on September 9, 2013, to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Furthermore, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
