March 22th, 2022    Komaru-Koutsu Foundation (headquartered in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held the 5th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at Fukuyama New Castle Hotel on March 19 jointly with the Hiroshima University Vietnam Center in the presence of Sir Watanabe Nobuhiro - Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City as a guest of honor and Toshiyuki Sato, Executive Vice President of Hiroshima University as co-host. This year's contest was held online, as in the previous year, connecting Japan and Vietnam in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd (President: Shigehiro Komaru) is a special sponsor of the contest.

This year's contest attracted 118 entries from 13 universities, exceeding the number of entries from the previous year, due to the momentum to improve Japanese language education and traffic safety awareness in Vietnam. Thirteen students who qualified under the theme of "Transportation" fully demonstrated the results of their daily studies in their speeches. The First Prize was awarded to Mr. Nguy?n Huy Ho?ng of the University of Humanities and Social Sciences for his speech on "Drowsy Driving and Preventive Strategies”. Through this contest, we intend to raise traffic safety awareness, further deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Vietnam, and strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.

Komaru-Kotsu was founded on September 9, 2013 and established to promote and educate the public about traffic safety. The Foundation holds traffic safety classes mainly at elementary schools nationwide and conducts educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. The foundation also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese abroad to present the results of their studies, and by holding Japanese speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
