December 21^th, 2022    Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru), Shibuya Ikueikai Public Interest Incorporated Foundation and Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) specially sponsored the 17th Japanese Composition Speech Contest by Chinese students, organized by Hiroshima University and Capital Normal University at Fukuyama Transporting head office on December 17th. Following March, the contest was held online as the 2nd Japan-China cultural exchange event to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China amid the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
The theme of this year's contest was "50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China and myself." Out of 179 entries, five selected winners gave speeches describing the future relationship and exchange between Japan and China based on their own experiences. The guests of honor included Ms. Yoshiko Kijima, Minister, Embassy of Japan in the People's Republic of China, and Mr. Toshiyuki Sato, Executive Director and Vice President of Hiroshima University, who served as the organizer of the event.
The Japanese Composition Speech Contest was first held in Beijing, China in 2006 to provide an opportunity for students studying Japanese abroad to present the results of their studies and contribute to cultural exchange with Japan, and raise awareness of traffic safety. Currently, in addition to Beijing, the contest is held in Shanghai and Guizhou in China, as well as in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Kaunas in Lithuania.
