The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) co-hosted the 8th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at Vytautas Magnus University in the Republic of Lithuania, in partnership with Fukuyama City University and Vytautas Magnus University on September 23. We were honored to welcome His Excellency Shinsuke Shimizu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Lithuania, as a distinguished guest at the event. The contest was made possible with the special sponsorship of Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Chairman: Shigehiro Komaru).
This year’s contest featured speeches under the theme of “Transportation.” In the advanced category, the first-place award was presented to Ms. Emilija Marozaite from Vilnius University for her outstanding speech, “Biomimicry: Learning Transportation Technology from Nature.” Through this contest, we aim to promote greater awareness of transportation safety, foster a deeper understanding between Japan and Lithuania, and nurture the friendship that unites our countries.
Chairman Komaru has served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Fukuyama since January 2017 and assumed the position of Honorary Consul General in February 2021. He actively promotes goodwill and friendship through various economic, cultural, and educational exchanges. Notably, he led a goodwill mission to Lithuania on Japan’s first-ever direct charter flight to the country. Looking ahead, he remains dedicated to supporting the continued growth and stability of both nations across a wide range of fields, including politics, economics, culture, and people-to-people exchange.
Established on September 9, 2013, the Komaru Koutsu Foundation is dedicated to promoting traffic safety through educational activities, including lectures in schools throughout Japan. The foundation also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by offering opportunities for international students studying Japanese to showcase their learning. It organizes Japanese composition speech contests focused on traffic safety, fostering both awareness and cultural exchange.
