Komaru Koutsu Foundation Hosts Its Fifth Japanese Speech Contest in Shanghai, China

This year, there were 189 submissions on the theme of "Traffic", from which the best 8 were invited to present their speeches.



September 15th, 2018     In collaboration with Hiroshima University and Shanghai International Studies University, Komaru Koutsu Foundation (President : Noriyuki Komaru, Chairman and C.E.O. of Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd.) held the fifth Japanese speech contest at Shanghai International Studies University in Shanghai, China. Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Headquarter: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President : Shigehiro Komaru; shortened as Fukuyama Transporting) is the contest's notable sponsor.

This speech contest in Shanghai has been conducted since 2014, making this year the 5th consecutive event. This year, there were 189 submissions on the theme of "Traffic", from which the best 8 were invited to present their speeches. The Award of Excellence went to Ms.Hao Hao from Jiangsu University, who was awarded by Mr.Noriyuki Komaru, the standing officer of Komaru Koutsu Foundation.

Visitors included current Ambassador of Japan to Shanghai Kazuyuki Katayama, as well as hosts of the competition Toshiyuki Sato the managing director and vice president of Hiroshima University, and Zhang Jian the vice-director of School of Japanese Studies in Shanghai International Studies University.

Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded in September 9th, 2013 by Komaru Noriyuki (Chairman and C.E.O. of Fukuyama Transporting) to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan, as well as handing out traffic accident prevention leaflets on the street. Furthermore, the foundation spreads awareness of traffic safety by hosting Japanese speech contests in overseas countries as an incentive to display their Japanese language education and experience cultural exchange.

The Japanese speech contest has been held in 3 cities in China (Shanghai, Guizhou, and Beijing*), as well as Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), and Jakarta (Indonesia). This is the first of many Japanese speech contests that are planned in 2018 to be held across the globe.
