The 7th Japanese Composition Speech Contest in Shanghai, China

65 people from seven universities applied for the contest, and seven excellent candidates from the preliminary screening gave speeches on the theme of "traffic".



May 24th, 2021   Public Interest Incorporated Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Head Office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, President: Shigehiro Komaru, hereinafter referred to as "Komaru Koutsu Foundation") held the 7th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at the Fukuyama Transporting Head Office on May 22, co-hosted by Hiroshima University and Shanghai International Studies University. This was the first time that the contest was held remotely, as the new coronavirus infection is spreading, and sufficient measures were taken to prevent infection, such as thorough indoor ventilation and alcohol disinfection at each venue.
Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director: Shigehiro Komaru) was a special co-sponsor.

This year's contest was held to promote cultural exchange, Japanese language education, and traffic safety awareness between Japan and China. 65 people from seven universities applied for the contest, and seven excellent candidates from the preliminary screening gave speeches on the theme of "traffic”. The Grand Prize went to Ms. Dong Le of Shanghai International Studies University, who gave a speech on the importance of obeying the rules in order to have a safe and secure traffic environment after being subjected to a traffic violation.
Also in attendance were Mr. Masashi Oku, Chief Consul of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai, Mr. Toshiyuki Sato, Executive Vice President of Hiroshima University, and Mr. Gao Jie, President of Shanghai International Studies University.

The Komaru Koutsu Foundation was established on September 9, 2013, with the aim of promoting and raising awareness of traffic safety. In Japan, the foundation holds traffic safety classes for elementary schools and conducts street activities such as distributing flyers to prevent traffic accidents. Overseas, it holds Japanese composition speech contests to provide opportunities for students to present the results of their Japanese language studies, to promote cultural exchange with Japan, and to raise awareness of traffic safety.
