October 30th, 2024    The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) co-sponsored with Fukuyama City University and Sonoma State University held the Second Japanese Composition Speech Contest on October 29th at Sonoma State University in the United States. The guest of honor was Mr. Hajime Kishimori, Deputy Consul General at the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco. A special sponsor of this contest is Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. Four students delivered speeches on the theme of "transportation,” aimed at raising awareness about traffic safety in the U.S. Ms. Renee Zhang from Sacramento State University won first place with her talk on the dangers of driving under the influence. She emphasized that this behavior can easily lead to traffic accidents and that drivers must take responsibility for their actions. Through a Japanese Composition Speech Contest, we will continue to raise traffic safety awareness, further deepen understanding, and strengthen friendly relations between the U.S. and Japan.

The Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013, to promote traffic safety and prevent accidents. The foundation conducts various traffic safety lectures in schools throughout Japan and engages in educational activities to promote road safety. Additionally, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese overseas to present the results of their studies. They also organize Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and encourage cultural exchange with Japan.
