Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 126 third graders of Hirokawa Municipal Nakahirokawa Elementary School in Fukuoka Prefecture on May 10th, jointly with Fukuoka Prefectural Yame Police Station.
Since students will have more opportunities to ride bicycles, we offered experiential learning to foster a deeper understanding of necessary traffic rules and manners when bicycling. During the seminar, they learned about predicting potential traffic dangers through hands-on experience using drive recorder footage and a bicycle simulator. As a result, students became more aware of safety measures and expressed their willingness to follow bicycle traffic rules and manners when riding.
We are committed to continuing our efforts to prevent and decrease the number of future traffic accidents among children by engaging in traffic safety education and raising awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities.
The Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013, to promote traffic safety and prevent accidents. The foundation conducts various traffic safety lectures in schools throughout Japan and engages in educational activities to promote road safety. Additionally, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese overseas to present the results of their studies. They also organize Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and encourage cultural exchange with Japan.
