Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 76 students of third and fourth grade at Goutsu Municipal Takatsuno Elementary School (Shimane Prefecture) on October 5th, 2022, co-organized with the Gotsu Police Station in Shimane Prefecture.
The class was designed to provide the students, who will have many opportunities to ride bicycles in the future, to understand of the traffic rules and manners necessary for safe bicycle riding. The students learned hands-on about predicting danger using drive recorder video and a bicycle simulator and commented on how the experience helped raise their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "There were many dangerous intersections, so we will follow the traffic rules properly.
We will continue our efforts to promote traffic safety awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities so as to reduce even one traffic accident.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 to promote traffic safety awareness and it holds various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. In addition, the Foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
