Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 136 students of third graders at Fukuyama Municipal Shingai Elementary School (Hiroshima Prefecture) on October 26th.
Shingai Elementary School is located near an arterial road with heavy traffic. In response to the school's request to prevent traffic accidents on the way to and from school and to raise traffic safety awareness, the students had hands-on experience learning the characteristics and dangers of trucks about the safe behavior at intersections and pedestrian crossings. The children commented on how the experience strengthened their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "there are many dangerous things at intersections, so I will always take one step back and wait at crosswalks.”
We will continue our efforts to promote traffic safety awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities so as to reduce even one traffic accident for children.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 and aimed at spreading and educating the public about traffic safety concepts. The foundation holds various traffic safety lectures at elementary schools across Japan and conducts educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. In addition, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
