Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 36 students of fourth graders at Kitakyushu Municipal Ichieda Elementary School (Fukuoka Prefecture) on September 22th in cooperation with the Tobata Police Station in Fukuoka Prefecture.
In response to a request from the Tobata Police Station, which aims to prevent traffic accidents and raise awareness of traffic safety in conjunction with Autumn Traffic Safety Week, the traffic class provided hands-on learning experience with the characteristics and dangers of trucks about preventing traffic accidents at intersections and pedestrian crossings. The children commented on how the experience strengthened their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "There were many places where I could not see from the driver's seat, so I will not play around or get close to them.
We will continue our efforts to educate children about traffic safety in cooperation with the police and local governments so that even one traffic accident among children will decrease in the future.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Overseas, it holds Japanese composition speech contests to provide opportunities for students to present the results of their Japanese language studies and to promote cultural exchange with Japan and also raise awareness of traffic safety that is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we support.
