Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 126 students from 2nd to 6th graders at Ebetsu Municipal Izumino Elementary School in Ebetsu City (Hokkaido) on September 17th.
In response to the school's request to prevent traffic accidents and raise awareness of traffic safety due to the high number of traffic accidents in the school district, the traffic class provided hands-on learning experience with the characteristics and dangers of trucks about preventing traffic accidents at intersections and pedestrian crossings. The children commented on how the experience strengthened their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "Now I know that intersections are full of dangerous places where cars come and go, I will be more careful when passing through them.
We will continue our efforts to educate children about traffic safety in cooperation with the police station and local governments so that even one traffic accident among children will decrease in the future.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Overseas, it holds Japanese composition speech contests to provide opportunities for students to present the results of their Japanese language studies and to promote cultural exchange with Japan and also raise awareness of traffic safety that is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we support.
