November 25^th, 2022    Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 63 students of fourth graders at Sagamihara Municipal Namiki Elementary School (Kanagawa Prefecture) on November 16th. Namiki Elementary School is adjacent to an arterial road with heavy traffic. In response to the request from Sagamihara Chuo Ward Office, which aims to prevent traffic accidents on the way to and from school and to raise traffic safety awareness, the students had hands-on experience learning the characteristics and dangers of trucks about the safe behavior at intersections and pedestrian crossings. The children commented on how the experience strengthened their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "There were many places where I could not see from the driver's seat, so I will not play around or get close to them.” To prevent and decrease the number of future traffic accidents among children, we will continue to promote traffic safety awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013, and aimed at spreading and educating the public about traffic safety concepts. The foundation holds various traffic safety lectures at elementary schools across Japan and conducts educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. In addition, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
