Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for all 270 students at Bizen Municipal Bizen Junior High School (Okayama Prefecture) on October 11th.
In response to a request from the school, which expected to raise traffic safety awareness regarding the prevention of traffic accidents involving bicycles, the students were provided hands-on experience in predicting danger using drive recorder videos and a bicycle simulator. The students commented on how the event helped raise their traffic safety awareness, saying, "Traffic accidents are not something that happens to other people, but can happen to us, so we want to make sure to follow the traffic rules and manners for bicycles.”
We will continue our efforts to promote traffic safety awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities so as to reduce even one traffic accident.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 to promote traffic safety awareness and it holds various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. In addition, the Foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
