Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a traffic safety class for 34 third graders of Okayama Prefectural Okayama Seto Special Needs High School on December 1.
Given the school’s location near a busy arterial road, we conducted an experiential learning program. This helped students understand key traffic rules and safe bicycling practices. Students used dashcam-based hazard recognition exercises and a bicycle simulator. They learned hands-on about traffic risks, truck blind spots, and safe behavior at intersections and crosswalks. By the end, students showed heightened awareness of safety, such as staying alert to blind spots and inner-wheel differences.
We will continue working closely with local police and community organizations to provide ongoing education and help prevent future traffic accidents involving children.
The Komaru Koutsu Foundation, established on September 9, 2013, is dedicated to promoting traffic safety and accident prevention. The foundation conducts educational programs in schools across Japan and promotes road safety through various initiatives. In support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the foundation also provides platforms for overseas students studying Japanese to showcase their learning and hosts Japanese composition and speech contests to raise awareness of traffic safety and foster cultural exchange.
