Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Chairman: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) organized a joint traffic safety seminar for 18 senior citizens at Fukuyama City Shingai Community Center in Hiroshima Prefecture on July 14th with the Hiroshima Prefectural Fukuyama Higashi Police Station.
As part of the Hiroshima Prefecture Summer Traffic Safety Campaign, the police station requested our assistance in raising traffic safety awareness and preventing traffic accidents. During the seminar, the participants learned how to predict potential traffic dangers through hands-on experiences, using drive recorder footage and a bicycle simulator. This practical experience strengthened their safety awareness and reminded the importance of pausing to ensure their safety before crossing intersections.
To further prevent and reduce future traffic accidents involving senior citizens, we will continue to engage in traffic safety education and awareness initiatives in collaboration with police stations and local authorities.
The Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013, to promote traffic safety and prevent accidents. The foundation conducts various traffic safety lectures in schools throughout Japan and engages in educational activities to promote road safety. Additionally, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese overseas to present the results of their studies. They also organize Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and encourage cultural exchange with Japan.
