The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Chairman: Shigehiro Komaru) held the 8th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at Darma Persada University on December 16th, accompanied by the guest of honor Mr. Daisuke Hoshino, Envoy of Japan to Indonesia. The speech contest was held jointly with Hiroshima University PERSADA Collaboration Project Center, Darma Persada University, and Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (President: Shigehiro Komaru) as a special sponsor.
This year, there were 115 entries from 10 universities regarding "transportation." 10 selected students presented the results of their daily studies in their speeches. The grand prize went to Ms. Rania Aydin from the University of Indonesia for her speech suggesting tightening regulations for motorcycle riders to wear helmets for safety reasons. Through a Japanese composition speech contest, we will continue to raise traffic safety awareness, further deepen understanding, and strengthen friendly relations between Indonesia and Japan.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was established on September 9th, 2013, to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in schools across Japan and handing out traffic accident prevention leaflets on the street. Furthermore, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
