May 18^th, 2024    The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) organized the 1st Japanese Composition Speech Contest on May 18th at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia in the presence of Mr. Yukiyoshi Saito, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia. The contest was co-hosted by Fukuyama City University, the Islamic Science University of Malaysia, and the Malaysia Japanese Language Instructors Society with a special sponsorship from Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (President: Shigehiro Komaru).

9 participants delivered speeches on the theme of "transportation." Ms. Nabilah Athirah Binti Nurularifin from the Islamic Science University of Malaysia won the grand prize for her speech on interesting activities Malaysians do when encountering traffic jams during Eid al-Fitr. Through a Japanese Composition Speech Contest, we will continue to raise traffic safety awareness, further deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia, and strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.

The Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013, to promote traffic safety and prevent accidents. The foundation conducts various traffic safety lectures in schools throughout Japan and engages in educational activities to promote road safety. Additionally, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese overseas to present the results of their studies. They also organize Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and encourage cultural exchange with Japan.
