First Japanese Speech Contest Held in the Republic of Lithuania

This contest is the first held in the Republic of Lithuania, where 6 students presented speeches on the topic of "Traffic".



September 24th, 2018     In collaboration with Hiroshima University and Vytautas Magnus University, Komaru Koutsu Foundation (President : Noriyuki Komaru, Chairman and C.E.O. of Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd.) held the first Japanese speech contest at the Vytautas Magnus University campus, in the city of Kaunas, Republic of Lithuania. In addition to the above, Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Headquarter: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President : Shigehiro Komaru; shortened as Fukuyama Transporting) is the contest's notable sponsor.

This contest is the first held in the Republic of Lithuania, where 6 students presented speeches on the topic of "Traffic". The Award of Excellence went to Salomeya Ulinitis of Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium, who was awarded by Mr. Noriyuki Komaru, the Senior managing director of Komaru Koutsu Foundation.

Visitors included current Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Lithuania Shiro Yamazaki, as well as hosts of the competition Mitsuo Ochi of Hiroshima University and Head of Asian Research Vytautas Magnus University Aurelijus Zykas.

Since being appointed as Honorary Consulate to the Republic of Lithuania in January 30th, 2017, President Komaru has been promoting amity and friendship between Japan and the Republic of Lithuania. Furthermore on August 12th, 2018, Fukuyama Transporting signed a business partnership with Lithuanian company HOPTRANS LOGISTICS to strengthen economic, cultural, and educational exchange via educational institutions.

Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded in 2013 by Komaru Noriyuki (Chairman and C.E.O. of Fukuyama Transporting) to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan, as well as handing out traffic accident prevention leaflets on the street. Furthermore, the foundation spreads awareness of traffic safety by hosting Japanese speech contests in overseas countries as an incentive to display their Japanese language education and experience cultural exchange.

The Japanese speech contest has been held in the Republic of Lithuania, Shanghai, Guizhou, Beijing*, Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Jakarta (Indonesia). 2 speech contests have been conducted by the foundation in 2018 alone, and is scheduled to be held in many other countries.
