The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) co-sponsored with Hiroshima University and Vytautas Magnus University held the 6th Japanese Composition Speech Contest on October 13 at Vytautas Magnus University (the Republic of Lithuania). Attended guests of honor were H.E. Dr. Aurelijus Zykas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan, and H.E. Mr. Tetsu Ozaki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Lithuania. A special sponsor of this contest is Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru).
The theme of this contest was "transportation." 1st place in the advanced level was Ms. Monika Kazuraite from Vilnius University, who gave a speech about the fantasy experience while driving. Through a Japanese Composition Speech Contest, we will continue to engage in raising traffic safety awareness, further deepen understanding, and strengthen friendly relations between Lithuania and Japan.
Since becoming Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Fukuyama in January 2017 and Honorary Consul General in February 2021, President Komaru has been striving to promote friendship and goodwill between the Republic of Lithuania and Japan by conducting Japan's first direct flight to Lithuania by chartered airplane. This friendship visit by direct chartered flight is the third time. He will continue to promote friendship and goodwill between the two countries in exchanging cultural, academic, and economic fields.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was established on September 9, 2013, to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Furthermore, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
