October 27^th, 2023    Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Headquarters: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) co-sponsored with Fukuyama City University and Sonoma State University held the First Japanese Composition Speech Contest on October 23 at Sonoma State University (the United States of America). Attended guest of honor was Mr. Hajime Kishimori, Deputy Consul General at the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco. A special sponsor of this contest is Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru).
With the theme of "transportation” in this contest, four students gave a speech to raise traffic safety awareness in the U.S. Mr. Michel Gery from Sacramento State University won first place, whose talk was about a rickshaw.
Through a Japanese Composition Speech Contest, we will continue to engage in raising traffic safety awareness, further deepen understanding, and strengthen friendly relations between the U.S. and Japan.

Komaru Koutsu Foundation was established on September 9, 2013, to promote traffic safety awareness, hosting various traffic safety lectures in schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Furthermore, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
