Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President: Shigehiro Komaru) and the Komaru Koutsu Foundation (Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held a joint traffic safety seminar for 21 senior citizens at Chikushino Driving School (Fukuoka Prefecture) on November 7th with Fukuoka Prefectural Chikushino Police Station.
Due to the increasing number of traffic accidents involving senior citizens in Fukuoka Prefecture, the police station asked for our help to raise traffic safety awareness and prevent traffic accidents. The seminar includes hands-on experience learning the characteristics and dangers of trucks about safe behavior at intersections and pedestrian crossings. Participants commented on how the experience strengthened their awareness of traffic safety, saying, "There are more blind spots from the driver’s seat than I expected, so I will make sure to be careful when riding vehicles.”
We will continue to promote traffic safety awareness in cooperation with police stations and local authorities to reduce even one traffic accident by senior citizens.
Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 and aimed at spreading and educating the public about traffic safety concepts. The foundation holds various traffic safety lectures at elementary schools across Japan and conducts educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. In addition, the foundation supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students overseas studying Japanese to present the results of their studies and organizing Japanese composition speech contests to raise traffic safety awareness and promote cultural exchange with Japan.
