8th Japanese Composition Speech Contest in Shanghai, China

The 8th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at the head office of Fukuyama Transporting held on May 21st.



May 24th, 2022    The Komaru Koutsu Foundation (headquartered in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Chief Director: Shigehiro Komaru) held the 8th Japanese Composition Speech Contest at the head office of Fukuyama Transporting on May 21st. Mr. Zhang Qiongqiong, Second Secretary (Education) of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan, and Mr. Mahiro Numata, Consul of Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai were present as guests of honor.

The contest was held remotely between Japan and Shanghai to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus as in the previous year, and we received video messages from Mr. Kong Xuanyou, Ambassador of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Japan and Mr. Shuichi Akamatsu, Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in Shanghai, and also Mr. Jie Gao, Dean of Shanghai International studies University attended the ceremony from Shanghai. Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. is a special sponsor of the contest.

This year's contest, which was motivated by the momentum to improve Japanese language education and traffic safety awareness in China, received 59 entries from 8 universities and 8 students had passed the qualifying round on the theme of "Transportation" fully demonstrated the results of their daily study and delivered their speeches. The grand prize was awarded to Ms. Xiangling Zhong of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, who gave a speech on "What have we lost due to the development of transportation?”. Through raising traffic safety awareness at this contest, Japan and China will further deepen mutual understanding and strengthen friendly bilateral relationship.

Komaru Koutsu Foundation was founded on September 9th, 2013 to promote traffic safety awareness that is hosting various traffic safety lectures in Elementary schools across Japan and carrying out educational activities to prevent traffic accidents. Overseas, it holds Japanese composition speech contests to provide opportunities for students to present the results of their Japanese language studies and to promote cultural exchange with Japan and also raise awareness of traffic safety that is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we support.
